Operation Rotary Cares - Tsunami Relief Project

The Rotary Club of Canmore and other Rotary Clubs around the world partnered with Rotary Thailand in their OPERATION ROTARY CARES project to construct houses for families in Pangna Province, Thailand.

In total, more than 145 houses will be constructed through the OPERATION ROTARY CARES project. Canmore families generously donated $12,800 to the Canmore Rotary Club Charitable Foundation at a special Disaster Relief Pasta Dinner held at the Canmore Rec Centre on January 21, 2005.

Through the world-wide Rotary network, these funds were transferred to OPERATION ROTARY CARES in Thailand and have directly benefitted 15 families whose homes were destroyed in the December 26, 2005 tsunami.

Rotary volunteers in Thailand have constructed many of the new houses. Homes are located a safe distance from the coast line and constructed to new coastal flooding standards recently set down by the Government of Thailand. Construction of facilities to ensure safe drinking water and proper sewerage handling is also underway.

The Club recently received photographs of the construction progress. The wonderful support of the citizens of Canmore contributed directly to this massive rebuilding project. The Rotary Club of Canmore thanks everyone for putting ... SERVICE Above Self.
